How to verify any moving company

Every legitimate interstate mover has a USDOT number that you can look up for free.

1. 01Go to safer.fmcsa.dot.gov.
2. 02Click "Company Snapshot" and enter the USDOT number or company name.
3. 03Confirm the company is registered as a "Carrier" (not just a broker), the operating authority is "Authorized for Property" and active, and the address matches what they have told you.
4. 04Check the safety record. Crashes, inspection violations, and out-of-service rates are public.

Certificates of insurance

For moves into apartment buildings, condos, senior communities, and commercial spaces, building management often requires a certificate of insurance (COI) before move day.

We provide COIs at no additional charge. Just send us the building requirements (additional insured name, coverage minimums, fax or email address) when you book and we will get the certificate to property management before move day.

What to ask before paying any deposit

• What is your USDOT number? (Should be answered without hesitation.)
• Are you the carrier or a broker?
• Can I see your certificate of insurance?
• Is your quote a binding flat rate?
• What is the cancellation policy and refund timeline on any deposit?
